Environment & sustainability

Environment

St Martins aimed to consider environmental factors when it developed properties to reduce the impact of future events. Here are some of our key aims:

  • take action to reduce emissions such as nitrogen oxides and indirect emissions of other gases with ozone depletion and global warming potential.
  • carry out environmental performance assessments during the concept design stage of all our developments and major refurbishments, using recognised tools and methods such as BREEAM.
  • promote the use of safe and affordable alternatives to materials with potentially significant environmental impacts.
  • achieve a ‘Very Good’ or ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating on all of our new office developments.
  • achieve a rating of ‘Very Good’ or ‘Excellent’ under the BRE Eco-Homes scheme on our residential developments.

Sustainable development

Our strategy aimed to address the environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainability to provide durable, adaptable and flexible property with social value. In our past developments we have shown commitment to:

  • engage with and adopt best practice measures for sustainable development.
  • actively promote our sustainable development programme with tenants by engaging in collaborative programmes to reduce negative environmental and social impacts and improve links with local communities.
  • review the environmental performance of our international portfolio and engage with local initiatives to promote sustainable development related to our business activities.
